INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Killinghome tanker drivers on strike

Talks between Wincanton and Unite appear to have reached no suitable conclusion, as tanker drivers at the Killinghome depot in Lincolnshire begin their seven days of industrial action.

Trade union Unite argues that Wincanton are attempting to reduce the pay of the tanker drivers by as much as 20%, as well as inducing a number of other contract changes, which has prompted this industrial action. Only a few days ago, Wincanton and Unite stated that they had entered negotiations, and that neither wished to see industrial action become necessary. These talks have clearly not succeeded.

A spokesman from Unite says, “The lads feel that the company is trying to chivvy away at their hard earned money. The job is high risk, and they are effectively transporting large bombs if not treated properly. It's a specialist job!”

Wincanton however hit back at the drivers, stating that they do not understand why the strikes are taking place. Wincanton also stated that this action would jeopardise the future of the company, particularly as they are currently fighting to keep their contract with oil giant ConocoPhillips.
