Former record-breaking Olympic athlete, Derek Redmond, and Channel 4 Sales Director, Jonathan Allan, will join growing line-up of speakers at The Buy Yorkshire Conference as its showcases ‘the best of British’.
With a successful athletics career spanning two decades, double 400 metre record breaker and triple gold medallist, Mr Redmond, will divulge just what it takes to be a world champion and how the strategies learned throughout his career as an elite athlete can help to place businesses at the top of their game.
Recognising that the qualities harnessed throughout his sporting career also feature at the top of the business agenda, motivational speaker of 17 years, Mr Redmond will encourage listeners to step out of their suits and join him on a captivating journey as he shares techniques that have allowed him to enhance his performance both on the track and in the boardroom.
He said: “Leadership, teamwork, dedication and determination are just a few of the attributes that have allowed me to perform at my peak throughout my career. My profession doesn’t come without it’s challenges, and if it wasn’t for the resilience that has been instilled in me, my sporting incident in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Semi-Finals could have really tested my self-belief.
“These days’ people are bombarded with business scenarios, both in and out of the office, that don’t really offer anything new. I aim to help people to step out of that zone and transport them to somewhere new, with the intention that, through living my story, people can be inspired and leave with a new, fresh perspective along with some business strategies that really work.”
Further adding to the line-up, the Conference will also welcome Sales Director of Channel 4, Jonathan Allan to the stage.
Responsible for overseeing the entire revenue earning activity of Channel 4, which currently generates over £1 billion annually, Mr Allan will explain how thanks to his leadership credentials, and with the support of his wider team, Channel 4 were announced as Campaign’s Annual Medium of the year in 2015 and Campaign’s TV Sales Team of the Year 2016 for the third consecutive year.
Counting innovation as a top priority Channel 4 was the first UK broadcaster to embrace viewer data, with the British corporation now boasting over 15 million registered viewers.
Mr Allan said: “Engaging audiences is what we do best at Channel 4 and with the rapidly changing tastes of today’s consumers, monitoring viewer data reactions are imperative in informing our content and commercial strategies.”
With the additional responsibility of overseeing Channel 4’s successful Indie and Commercial Growth Funds Mr Allan is adept at nurturing creative companies and helping them to achieve financial growth.
The Conference takes place at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on the 16 and 17 May.
