Yorkshire artist, Shaun Gagg, known for his unusual sculptures made only out of 2p pieces welded together, has found international success through art website Artfinder – selling all seven of the sculptures he initially listed on the site within two months. He has since listed extra work and continues to see great sales – all over the UK and also in Sweden. Shaun was born in Sheffield, grew up in Wombwell and currently lives in Filey.
Shaun joined Artfinder, a global marketplace for original, affordable art in December 2015. He has been a full time sculptor for 20 years, but hasn’t seen sales success like this before.
Shaun comments: “I used to work with stone sculptures, the huge boulders on the beach at Filey. I use to go there and dig the boulders into the ground, it made for quite the tourist attraction. From there I moved onto sculpting using slate, until about three years ago where I moved to my primary resources, presently being nails, steel, and 2p coins. Artfinder is amazing, my work has sold so quickly it’s incredible.”
Jonas Almgren, CEO of Artfinder comments: “Our mission here at Artfinder is to give independent artists the ability to directly support themselves and to make a living from their art. I’m delighted that so early in the company’s growth that we have success stories such as Shaun’s – and not only to hear about sales success but to hear that artists are then able to go full time with their art. In 2016 our world is smaller than ever and our site is the source of so many amazing global stories of artists connecting with customers, developing relationships that may last a lifetime.”
Artfinder is the largest global marketplace for original art, connecting over 500,000 subscribers worldwide with 180,000+ pieces of art from 6,000 artists.
