Plans to transform the former Debenhams building in Hull are expected to clear their final hurdle as councillors prepare to review the scheme this week. Developer DBG Group, which acquired the five-storey property on Prospect Street earlier this year, is seeking permission to convert the long-vacant site into a mixed-use residential and retail development.
The proposal outlines 178 one- and two-bedroom apartments across the upper floors, supported by three cycle storage areas offering 290 spaces and service rooms on each level. The ground floor would retain commercial activity, with four retail units planned along Ferensway and Brook Street. Updated plans removed earlier residential units on the Brook Street side to allow for additional commercial space.
The project includes structural alterations, including a central atrium and new windows throughout. Council officers have recommended approval, noting gains in regeneration and housing supply in the city centre. The building has remained empty since the national closure of Debenhams stores in 2021.
