Barrett Steel expands in south with acquisition

Bradford’s Barrett Steel has acquired Canterbury-based John Parker & Son out of administration, boosting the steel stockholder’s geographic reach.

The deal sees Barrett Steel growth its network to 27 locations across the UK and provides it with a base to service and support customers in the South.

Specifically, the deal adds an exclusive and dedicated bulk receipts port facility which will offer greater flexibility as well as speed of supply to service UK customers.

The move has seen Barrett Steel welcome over 50 new employees to their team who transfer employment under the acquisition securing jobs in the area.

Expansion into the South of England is the latest of many investments for the Group in recent years.

“This acquisition allows the Group to develop its presence in the South of England which complements our existing processing hubs in the North,” said Group Managing Director James Barrett.

“We are excited to welcome the Shoreham team to our business and are positive about the future of the steel industry.”
