J D Wetherspoon will open a new pub in Bourne, Lincolnshire as part of a £200 million investment into its pub estate over the next four years.
The company, which currently operates almost 900 pubs and almost 60 hotels across the UK and Ireland, will focus predominantly on small and medium-sized towns, though it will also invest in larger towns and cities including London, Dublin and Glasgow.
The strategic investment will be used to develop new pubs and hotels as well as enlarging its existing portfolio. It will also result in the creation of 10,000 new jobs.
“We are looking forward to opening many more new pubs as well as investing in existing pubs over the next four years,” said Wetherspoon founder and Chairman, Tim Martin.
“We are especially pleased that a large proportion of the investment will be in smaller towns and cities which have seen a decline in investment in recent years.
“The fact that we will be creating approximately 10,000 jobs is great news too.”
