CEMEX to mothball Lincolnshire cement plant

Following a period of consultation with Employee Representatives and Unite the Union, CEMEX has today (14 July) confirmed it will mothball its South Ferriby Cement Plant.

This will affect approximately 110 employees who are currently based at the plant and it is anticipated that the majority of redundancies will take place in July.

The site will continue to be manned over the coming months as CEMEX’s team works to safely cease production, close down operations and secure the site. Once mothballed, there will be an ongoing 24/7 security provision at South Ferriby Cement Plant.

A statement from CEMEX says: “Thank you for your support over the past years, we are very proud to have been an important part of the local community.

“We understand this news may be disappointing but wish to reassure everyone that all commitments to the local community will be maintained, including the work agreed as part of the Environment Agency flood protection project.

“We would like to thank all of our colleagues at South Ferriby for their valued contribution to CEMEX and we appreciate this continues to be a very difficult time for them.”
