At the recent Estates Gazette Awards, held at the London Hilton, Hull-based student accommodation firm, the Kexgill Group, came out on top after storming the ‘Specialist Company of the Year’ category.
It’s the commercial property industry’s most prestigious awards ceremony, and sees the likes of The Crown Estate, Land Securities and British Land go head to head to compete for some of the most sought after accolades in the business.
With the student experience at the heart of its operations, which span nine student cities, including Bradford, the Kexgill Group has garnered a national reputation for customer service excellence.
Its commitment to simply ‘being a good landlord’ was commended by judges – amongst them, representatives from Google, J.P. Morgan Cazenove, Deloitte Real Estate, Arup Associates and the British Property Federation.
“We’re students’ parents away from home,” said Richard Stott, managing director of the firm, “so we don’t go for fancy freebies and gimmicky promotional deals. We prefer to ensure that, whatever the situation, our tenants have a friendly face to turn to and the peace of mind that any issue will be rectified swiftly and efficiently.”
Judges were also impressed by Kexgill’s expansion plans, which saw the company acquire and develop properties in both Middlesbrough and Stockton during 2015 and, as a result, secure the highest forward letting figures in the group’s 36-year history.
Richard added: “We were up against some huge and very worthy names, and we never expected that a northern student accommodation company would win such an accolade, but this success demonstrates our capability to compete with other providers on a national and very competitive playing field.”
The award was presented by actress Joanna Lumley.
