Langleys appoints Marie Horner as partner in employment law practice

Marie is an experienced specialist solicitor who will lead Langleys’ York practice advising clients on all aspects of employment law, from pursuit and defence of employment tribunal claims, business restructures, TUPE obligations, redundancy, data protection, executive terminations, discrimination and whistleblowing, through to day-to-day HR issues including performance management, disciplinary processes and handling absenteeism.

Marie will work alongside Kate Hindmarch, head of employment law, to grow the team and its client base across the wider Yorkshire area, including York, Beverley, Scarborough and East Yorkshire.

Marie has spent the past 20 years at Harrowells Solicitors, most recently as a partner and successfully leading a team of solicitors as head of its employment law practice for the last 10 years.

As a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and qualified in CIPD level 7 HR Management, Marie has an abundance of knowledge in employment law and a wider understanding of practical HR challenges. She is also a regular speaker at events and an in-house trainer for management workshops.

Commenting on her appointment, Marie Horner said: “The prospect of a new challenge at a bigger firm is extremely exciting. Langleys has a fantastic reputation and I’m looking forward to upholding and advancing it in the coming months and years. I’m pleased to be working alongside Kate Hindmarch and Langleys’ existing roster of clients, as well as attracting new clients to the firm.

“The work that Langleys has done to refine its vision and strategy, alongside the cultural investment in things like values, wellbeing and flexible working were really attractive to me. With the new leadership there is a real sense of opportunity to build something exciting.”

Marie is also passionate about sustainability of the practice and brings her paper-light operations to the firm. Langleys has upgraded its approach to work in recent months following the pandemic, introducing core hours and flexible working.
