Employees from LCF Law have raised more than £350 for Ilkley’s community café, Outside the Box, and are now organising a range of other fundraising events on behalf of the social enterprise.
The law firm is raising money for the café over a year, and this latest payment follows staff making donations rather than sending Christmas cards and a ‘swear box’ in the firm’s Ilkley office. In addition Neil Shaw, who heads up LCF Law’s Personal Law team in Ilkley, ran the 10k Leeds Abbey Dash last November dressed as Elvis Presley.
Outside the Box, which opened on Bridge Lane in 2013, is a charity and social enterprise that enables adults and young people with learning disabilities to lead more independent and fulfilled lives by providing structured work experience and training. The people the organisation works with, known as its members, span a wide range of ages and disabilities and play a major role in its overall team. Most work on structured tasks and activities at the café and follow individual programmes designed to develop their confidence, skills and abilities as they work towards set goals and accredited qualifications.
Ann Christian, a partner at LCF Law’s Ilkley office, says: “It’s great for our team to be able to support such a deserving organisation that’s right on our doorstep. The café makes a real difference to the lives of lots of local people, and has quickly established an excellent reputation for its food and drink offering, so we’re really looking forward to supporting them further and have lots of other fundraising events planned for the coming months.”
Outside the Box’s Jenna Peel said: “This money will help our members to continue progressing, learning and maximising their full potential before they ultimately move into work. Having the support of such a well-known and successful business like LCF Law is fantastic for everyone associated with Outside the Box.”
