Les Jones has joined bus operator Transdev as its new Engineering Manager at its depots in Harrogate, York and Malton.
With decades of experience gained at bus and truck depots across the North West, Les brings a strong track record of modernising engineering facilities which play a vital role in keeping the wheels turning every day for thousands of customers.
Les said: “I’m looking forward to working with the great engineering teams at our three North Yorkshire depots to deliver a safe, efficient and reliable service for our customers who travel on our amazing buses.
“I’ve been at the heart of modernisation in my previous roles and I’ve seen the positive difference it can really make to our teams, in our depots and out on the road.
“A great deal of investment has gone in over the last few years to introduce the most modern buses available, which need up-to-date and efficient back-up to make sure they keep on providing the best journey for our customers. I’m relishing the prospect of leading our teams to deliver a high quality and dependable service.”
Les began his engineering apprenticeship with then council-owned Preston Bus before joining Leyland-based truck engineering support firm, Mick Wilson Commercials.
He returned to Preston Bus in 1996 and progressed rapidly to become its Regional Engineering Manager, guiding the company’s team at its Deepdale depot through an extensive fleet modernisation programme.
The Preston company’s expansion after becoming part of the Rotala Group saw Les taking on extra responsibility for other depot locations in Lancashire and Greater Manchester upon acquisition.
Transdev’s Engineering Director Gordon Irvine said: “I’m delighted that Les will be bringing his valuable experience to steer our engineering teams on the road to modernisation.
“Our highly-skilled depot teams fulfil a vitally important role in making sure every one of our buses is safe, and performing at its very best both in terms of the customer experience and delivering peak efficiency every day. Les will guide us as we look to make sure the most amazing buses in Yorkshire have the best support to keep them on the road and delighting our customers every day.”
Outside work, Les enjoys a busy family life with his wife, two daughters and one granddaughter. He’s also a keen golfer and enjoys the social and sporting life on some of the North’s most scenic courses.
