In a bid to support the nation’s long-term glass supply, Saint-Gobain Glass has invested £30 million in its Eggborough factory in what it describes as a a “major milestone” for the manufacturer.
The installation of the enlarged capacity furnace, due to be completed by late summer, will replace the existing furnace that the company said has reached the end of its design life.
As well as boosting capacity, the new furnace will also use less energy.
“This is a major milestone in the history of our business,” said Steve Severs, Managing Director at Saint-Gobain Glass.
“It demonstrates our commitment to the long-term future of glass manufacturing in the UK and our confidence in the wider construction industry.
“The new facility is designed to manufacture high-performance products developed in the UK to meet the specific needs of the UK window industry.”
