A prominent brownfield site located on a main route into Leeds city centre could be transformed into a major new homes development of 143 apartments, surrounded by extensive landscaped grounds, as part of a recently submitted planning application.
The two-acre site is in a sought-after area, where Burley Road meets Willow Road, just one-mile West of the city centre and is also flanked by Kirkstall Road and Kirkstall Viaduct. The scheme would be developed by Leeds construction company The Broadley Group, which also owns the site. It has been designed by Brewster Bye Architects.
The site was previously home to Burley Liberal Club and a former bank building, which more recently was occupied by Broadley’s decorating division. Both buildings have now been demolished after sitting empty in recent years.
The proposed new development will offer a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, spread across two, five storey buildings that will be stepped in height in line with the natural contours of the site.
There will also be a parking area, secure cycle storage and a range of landscaped areas including several central courtyards offering communal gardens and a large expanse of public South facing green space complete with seating areas and footpaths leading through the viaduct into Burley Park.
