New Albion Square proposals to focus on office space and leisure

New proposals for the multi-million pound mixed-use Albion Square development in Hull are to focus more on office space and leisure.

The changes in proposals are a response to the rising demand for office space in the city, as well as national changes within the retail sector.

Although retail would no longer be a core function within the development, retail units of a smaller scale would still support the residential and leisure components within the site.

Mark Jones, director of regeneration, said: “The vision for Albion Square has always been to provide a mixed-use development comprising of retail, housing, office and leisure space. It is vital that we create the right development for the city both for now and for the future.

“City centres, and how people use centres, are constantly changing and evolving. The Albion Square development is a massive investment for Hull and Hull’s future, so it’s vitally important that as a council we provide the right development for the city.

“We are seeing significant growth in demand for city centre living and office space and Albion Square will play a major part in responding to this demand alongside other exciting developments within the city such as at C4DI, Europa House and the new Arco headquarters on the Fruit Market.”

The new proposals will be discussed at Cabinet in February.
