British Steel re-opened its Scunthorpe site in the middle of this morning after its earlier response to an undisclosed ‘incident’ in conjunction with police.
The site worked normally throughout the incident, but roads into the site were as a standstill with no-one allowed in or out, and bomb disposal specialists said to have been en route from York.
The exact nature of the incident has not yet been disclosed, but social media had been rife with rumours about the possibility of there being as many as three ‘bombs’ within some of the production units. There were also suggestions that the incident was sparked by a hoax call from an as-yet-unnamed environmentalist group.
