Solar project expected to deliver long-term economic gains for Doncaster

A proposed 40MW solar farm in Doncaster is set to provide a significant economic lift for local businesses and the wider South Yorkshire region. The scheme, planned on 79 hectares of Grey Belt land near the A1(M), is expected to generate more than £6.5 million in Business Rates for the council over its lifetime. Additional economic gains are anticipated through construction contracts, operational roles and wider supply chain involvement.

Lee Adams, Chief Commercial Officer at Enviromena, said: “Marr Solar Farm reflects our commitment to creating genuine, long-term value for the communities we work in.
“This is a significant opportunity for Doncaster. Once approved, the project will bring substantial financial investment to the area, reaching into the tens of millions, alongside long-term employment and community benefits.”

The project is privately financed and forms part of a growing portfolio managed by a UK-based renewable energy developer with nearly 400MW in current assets and a multigigawatt pipeline. The firm has begun early engagement with Doncaster Council’s economic teams and local businesses to support supply chain participation.

A £200,000 community benefit fund has been allocated to be administered by a national grant-giving foundation with a long record of supporting local initiatives. A school’s programme is also planned, offering curriculum-linked activities and site visits to encourage interest in renewable energy careers.

The planning committee will assess the proposal in December 2025. Planning officers have recommended approval after reviewing feedback from statutory consultees.
