This week’s ‘Time Out’ features Abi Shortte, the newest qualified solicitor in the commercial property team at Sheffield’s Wake Smith Solicitors.
She moved to Sheffield in 2010 to study law and German language at the University of Sheffield before joining Wake Smith Solicitors in 2016. She lives in Crookes with her husband Reese.
What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?
As a working week can be hectic, I like a chilled-out start to the weekend and so Friday evenings are my wind-down time. I enjoy trying out new recipes so I usually spend Friday evenings slowly preparing a delicious dinner with a glass of Pinot Grigio in one hand.
What is your hobby?
I really enjoy baking in my spare time. At least once a week I’ll bake some sort of bread, cakes, biscuits or brownies and, if I can get them out of the kitchen without my husband eating them all, they usually go down quite well at work with colleagues at Wake Smith Solicitors, or with friends.
What is your favourite movie?
I’m not into movies as much as I am into television series at the moment. I’ve just started watching Designated Survivor, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as the new president of the United States after an explosion wipes out everyone else in the line of succession. I’m hooked!
If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?
When I was growing up I always wanted to be a surgeon, so perhaps if I was a bit better at science, I would have gone into something medical.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
It would be great if I could teleport! I could avoid the commuting traffic, especially on the way home, and I could visit overseas family in the blink of an eye.
What is your favourite genre of music?
I like a wide variety of music and listen to different genres and artists depending on my mood. One of my favourite songs would have to be ‘Is this Love’ by Bob Marley, which was the first dance song at my wedding.
If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?
It’s not that far back but I if I had the chance to go back in time I would like to attend the London 2012 Olympics to watch the finals of the sprint events live.
