A “lock-down” weekend is just around the corner and that means it’s time for some quick fire questions to wind down with. Here Marcus Askam-Yates, Director of Student Lettings and a founder at Lincoln and Nottingham-based Student Housing, takes on ‘Time Out’.
What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?
I would usually get home on a Friday at around 6pm and take Rayner out for a good walk. Rayner’s a black Labrador if anyone was wondering.
What is your hobby?
Gone are the days of having what you’d call real hobbies. Now it’s mainly DIY at my house. I ‘recently’ (July 2019) bought a Victorian property which I had to gut and start from scratch due to condition. It’s funny, given my job I thought another refurbishment would be a breeze, boy was I wrong! Six months later, and I’m still living in a part-finished house, it’s an interesting challenge I must admit!
What is your favourite movie?
Call Me By Your Name – budget film but an instant classic with a great cast!
If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?
I read Law at university, and my plan was always to be a solicitor in a country practice. Things change, and I work in Student Lettings – wouldn’t have it any other way though!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Time travel: limitless possibilities and I could help shape the world we live in today for the better.
What is your favourite genre of music?
Well, I’m going to give that age-old answer of ‘absolutely anything’, I drive a fair amount for work and generally have the radio on so it’s a real mix from 70’s to modern Hip Hop. Cannot beat some Bach at times either.
If you could travel to any moment in time, where would you go?
20th July 1969 – The Moon Landing, with so many theories surrounding if it was staged or real, I’d be keen to see for myself (spacesuit and all if the latter)!
