With the weekend just around the corner, Business Link brings you another ‘Time Out’. In this edition we speak with Mike Ward, Managing Director at Wavin.
What is the first thing you do to get the weekend started?
To start the weekend off, my wife and I take our Labrador Alfie on a riverside walk where we end up at a local coffee shop. I get a Yorkshire rascal and Alfie gets a sausage.
What is your hobby?
I love to mountain bike with friends, and we are very lucky to live in a fantastic part of the world (North Yorkshire), that really lends itself to this. There is never any lycra involved either!
What is your favourite movie?
It’s definitely not a new one, but I’d go for 12 Angry Men – it was released in 1957 and starred Henry Fonda. As it’s in black and white, my kids have never been prepared to watch it with me! I like it because it’s a story of a man who fights for justice and does the right thing against all the odds.
If you hadn’t been successful at what you do, what would you be doing instead as a career?
I started off my working life as a Mining Engineer in Africa, so I imagine I would have stuck with that!
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
The “eat what you want and not get fat” super power. I’m afraid I do not possess this skill!
What is your favourite genre of music?
I do like the music from the early 1980s – The Specials, Madness, Bad Manners. I loved my 14 eye Doc Martens!
If you could travel to any moment in time where would you go?
30th July 1966. I was born in October 1966 so I can’t imagine how great it must be to be old enough to remember England winning the World Cup at Wembley.
