The University of Hull has named Professor Philip Gilmartin as its first International Pro Vice Chancellor, with the remit to engage with universities around the world, forging new partnerships and strengthening the University’s global reputation.
The plant geneticist Professor takes up his position this week, coming from the University of East Anglia, where he held the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Science and Pro-Vice-Chancellor International jointly.
He said: “I was looking for a new opportunity and the PVC role at Hull jumped off the page.
“When I came here I just knew it was the right place to move. The University has a really great feel about it and there is real ambition here. There is the opportunity to build on the international agenda, and the fact that there has not been a PVC for International previously, means there is a lot of scope to really develop opportunities and make a real difference and a big impact.”
Professor Susan Lea, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Gilmartin, to this new role at the University of Hull. He brings with him a wealth of international experience which will help us accelerate our global agenda. The opportunity afforded through the new relationship with Leeds in relation to Professor Gilmartin’s research is also very positive and will bring new regional and international collaborations to Hull.”
