York council invites employers to apprenticeship event

Young people and businesses from the York area are being invited to the 11th York Apprenticeship Hub event on Wednesday 6th March.

The city council-led event offers employers and training providers the opportunity to meet young people who are finishing school, sixth form or college later in the year.

It will take place at the council’s West Offices from 4.30-7pm and will showcase over 100 local apprenticeship opportunities.

The promoted vacancies will cover; business and finance, construction, retail, hospitality, digital & IT, engineering, law & childcare.

Exhibiting employers include York College, Fera Science Ltd, YH Training, City of York Council, Garbutt and Elliott, Army Careers, LNER, Softbox Ltd, Derwent Training and many more.

Young people aged 16 to 24 and their parents or carers will have the chance to meet recruiting employers and training providers. Young people seeking an apprenticeship are encouraged to bring copies of their CV.

One-to-one advice sessions will also be on offer from Prospects, City of York Council’s Learning & Work Advisers and Jobcentre Plus.

Cllr Keith Aspden, executive member for economic development and community engagement, said: “The York Apprentice Hub is an excellent resource for local businesses to use in order to help grow and invest in young people.

“If you are unsure what the apprenticeship reforms, or levy, means for your business, then I would strongly encourage you to attend this event. Our apprenticeships team will be on hand to help with any queries you may have.”

Cllr Keith Myers, executive member for education, children and young people, said: “The apprenticeship recruitment event has been growing year on year, and once again offers a great showcase of employers and training providers from across the city.

“I would encourage young people who are considering their options for the future to come along and speak with the wide array of employers that will be on hand.”

Companies wishing to exhibit apprenticeship vacancies at the event, or who’d like more information on recruiting an apprentice or using apprenticeship training to up-skill existing staff, are asked to contact the York Apprenticeship Hub on 01904 553732.
