< PreviousAnd finally The world of Frazer Here’s Frazer’s monthly collection of the weird and wonderful ‘news’ that came his way over the last few weeks! Guilty pleasure spending scuppering saving plans Remember when avocado toast was blamed for millennials not being able to save to buy their own house? Turns out that it’s a generational issue, with research from Creditfix revealing that guilty pleasure spending is costing Brits £866 billion each year. According to the findings from the survey of 1,000 UK adults, Brits spend £1,093.90 on treats for themselves each month despite only having £371.30 of disposable income, while 16% admitted to being reckless with money at times. The biggest guilty pleasure spend is holiday travel, but the top ten list also included gadgets, events, takeaways, hobbies and nights out. So, Brits struggle to save for anything of real importance, but at least we’re having fun. Meet Emma – all your office health issues given form Few among us would claim that there’s anything healthy about working in an office. A study of 3,000 workers across the UK, Germany and France has found that more than 90% of UK office workers suffering from work- related health issues have more difficulty doing their job. Now experts, commissioned by the office equipment supplier Fellowes, have created a terrifying life-size model called ‘Emma’ representing all these health issues. She’s got a permanently hunched back from long hours sat at her desk; varicose veins in her legs; she’s overweight; has eczema; pale skin from long exposure to artificial light; and red, dry eyes from staring at a screen. It probably won’t lead to any changes in the workplace, but it might leave you with some nightmares. 50 Business Link www.blmforum.net Bringing the pub quiz into the modern age Numbers of British boozers have increased for the first time in a decade. No doubt that’s down to pubs appealing to modern drinkers, with non-alcoholic options, vegan food and free Wi-Fi, or whatever it is twenty-somethings want these days. The humble pub quiz looks out of date in comparison, but that too has entered the digital age. We’re not just talking an app here, but an entire company “revolutionising” the pub quiz. York-based SpeedQuizzing in on track to become a £1 million business within a few years thanks to its online platform and app allowing pubs to quiz its punters without the need for pen and paper. Maybe Frazer was too drunk to notice, but apparently people still love a pub quiz, with SpeedQuizzing claiming its platform and app are now used in over 800 pubs across the UK every week. © Shutterstock/ ean Drobot © Speedquizzing 50.qxp_Layout 1 19/12/2019 09:41 Page 1D Davies Turner Your worldwide freight and logistics partner T: 01709 529709 www.daviesturner.com Celebrating 150 years of pioneering service YEARS 51.qxp_Layout 1 19/12/2019 09:42 Page 1t (44) 01522 437100 e enquiry@lincolnsciencepark.co.uk Lincoln Science Innovation Park | Beevor Street | Lincoln LN6 7DJ www.LSIPphase2.co.uk size from 5,000 to 27,000 sq ft (500m2 to 2,500m2) over six landscaped acres of the Park with access to its facilities and services.
