< PreviousAnd finally The world of Frazer Here’s Frazer’s monthly collection of the weird and wonderful ‘news’ that came his way over the last few weeks! Wishful financial thinking In what looks like an act of wishful thinking, Dixons Carphone wrongly reported a rise in sales. Turns out they were mistaken and were forced to reissue their Christmas trading figures to say sales dipped over the period. Citing a “clerical error”, the retailer reissued the statement for the final ten weeks of the year, reporting a 2% decline in sales rather than the 2% rise. Turns out wishful thinking doesn’t work when it comes to trading updates. A dent in your delivery If you’ve ever received a parcel that’s a bit banged up and wondered why, well now we have the truth. Pictures taken inside Hermes’ Bradford depots shows packages strewn across the warehouse floor, some of which are labelled fragile. Images from the back of the delivery trucks, meanwhile, show packages flung in without any care – a symptom of workers having to collect some 900 parcels a day. An anonymous worker at the depot said the images represented a daily occurrence. They even claimed workers have played football with parcels. Doubtless it’s not just the Bradford branch that’s guilty of this. For what it’s worth, Hermes has launched an investigation after the images appeared online. © Shutterstock/ ESB Professional © Shutterstock/Noel O Neill - Lens Alive Job with no electricity, no Wi-Fi, no hot showers – no way! More and more people want to flee the rigors modern life if the number of applicants to a new job offer on a tiny island off the Irish coast are anything to go by. According to the unusual job listing for two caretakers, Great Blasket has no electricity, Wi-Fi or hot showers. The caretakers would need to manage accommodation and a café on the island and would need to rely on fires, candles and stoves. Apparently there’s a small wind turbine that kicks out enough power to charge a phone if that helps sweeten then deal. So far there’s been hundreds of queries from far and wide for this back to basics position. Frazer thinks he’ll stick with the office, thanks. 50 Business Link www.blmforum.net 50.qxp_Layout 1 03/02/2020 14:43 Page 1AVAILABLE NOW 278,852 SQ FT TO LET UP TO 606,000 SQ FT gazeley.com NEW, HIGHLY-SPECIFIED DISTRIBUTION WAREHOUSE PLUS AN ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE A BESPOKE BUILDING FOR ALL ENQUIRIES: Adrienne Howells Development Director adrienne.howells@gazeley.com +44 (0)20 7901 4452 James Atkinson Development Manager james.atkinson@gazeley.com +44 (0)20 7901 4452 G-PARK DONCASTER – UNIT 1 WEST MOOR PARK, M18/J4 51.qxp_Layout 1 04/02/2020 09:13 Page 152.qxp_Layout 1 04/02/2020 09:14 Page 1Next >
