< PreviousAnd finally The world of Frazer Here’s Frazer’s monthly collection of the weird and wonderful ‘news’ that came his way over the last few weeks! £40k head of coffee wanted The Tate has been forced to defend its recent job posting after putting out an ad in search of a ‘head of coffee’ with a salary of almost £40,000 a year. To put that in perspective that’s more than the average salaries of paramedics, health professionals, radiographers, nurses, midwives and ambulance staff. It’s also about double what Tate assistants start on. Unsurprisingly, the job, which apparently entails “sourcing, blending and roasting coffee”, was widely mocked and criticised. As far as Frazer’s concerned, it sounds like easy money. Treating staff well pays off The UK’s been a bit of a slow starter when it comes to the four-day week, but more businesses are adopting the shorter working week. Amazing how treating staff fairly, giving them more time with their families and providing a better work- life balance can lead to a more motivated and productive workforce. Hull-based recruitment firm, CB Recruitment, trialled the four-day week throughout January and reported that productivity increased by more than 50% with the firm looking at a record-breaking month. Unsurprisingly, it’ll continue with the shorter working week. Treat staff well, make more money. You’d think most businesses would have caught on by now. © Shutterstock/portumen © Shutterstock/pathdoc Audi & BMW drivers the actual worst, study shows If you’ve ever encountered idiotic or aggressive drivers on the road, chances are they’ll be driving an Audi or BMW. Turns out there’s a scientific study backing this up. A Finnish professor of social psychology found that Audi and BMW drivers “seemed much more likely to ignore traffic regulations and drive recklessly”. In the University of Helsinki’s newsletter, he added that these drivers were “the ones most likely to run a red light, not give way to pedestrians and generally drive recklessly and too fast”. He could have saved himself the hassle of the study and just taken a drive down the M62 to learn that much. 50 Business Link www.blmforum.net © Shutterstock/ASDF_MEDIA 50.qxp_Layout 1 06/03/2020 11:16 Page 1Straightforward, friendly advice from local experts We have a wide range of services and a wealth of experience to ensure you’re covered, whatever the future brings Business insurance Landlords insurance Risk management Credit insurance Cyber cover Grimsby Ad 02.indd 105/03/2020 16:45:50 51.qxp_Layout 1 06/03/2020 11:16 Page 1We run a series of workshops to help guide business owners and directors through their full business life-cycle.
