< PreviousAnd finally The world of Frazer Here’s Frazer’s monthly collection of the weird and wonderful ‘news’ that came his way over the last few weeks! 50 Business Link www.blmforum.net © Shutterstock/ Savvapanf Photo © Shutterstock/ azem Another Zoom faux paw Yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking: “Frazer, surely there could not already be another video call mistake taking the media by storm.” Well, dear readers, there is. Professionals across the globe still remain inept at using the tech effectively in a myriad of ways. Today, Frazer would like to highlight a rather hilarious instance in which footage from a meeting tickled viewers as a lawyer found himself speaking with the face of a sad kitten. Trapped with the filter, while scouring through menus for a solution, the lawyer ensured to clarify as the feline’s eyes darted around with stress: “I’m here live. I’m not a cat.” To which the judge responded: “I can see that.” Moral of the story kids, if over a year into the pandemic you haven’t realised it yet, check your settings before you start the call! © Shutterstock/ Sonsedska Yuliia Pigs can do what? During a recent video chat with a former colleague who now works in the agriculture space, Frazer enjoyed playing a round of “did we really need research on this?” The colleague brought a corker to the table, or rather Frazer should say, porker. Four pigs - Hamlet, Omelette, Ebony and Ivory - have been trained to use joysticks to play a video game. The pigs apparently had a “remarkable” ability to play the game with their snouts, indicating “behavioural and cognitive flexibility.” For the scientists in the study this re- emphasises the famous intelligence of pigs, who can use tools and show emotional sensitivity. Frazer wonders whether we’ll start to see arcade machines installed on farms? Marketing misfire or publicity ploy? Last month Frazer brought you a celebrated marketing move from Weetabix. This month he brings you a misfire. While on International Women’s Day many companies were celebrating inspirational women, the brains at Burger King UK stirred up controversy after posting tweets that though when taken together held the spirit of the day, apart were not so much appreciated. The fast-food chain began: “Women belong in the kitchen.” Eek. Which was followed by: “If they want to, of course. Yet only 20% of chefs are women. We’re on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career.” The chain went on to announce a new scholarship programme to help female employees to pursue culinary dreams. Unfortunately, the internet being what it is, posting the initial tweet alone, without the follow-up, was obviously going to be taken out of context. Why didn’t they simply merge the tweets? A lot of hate could have been avoided. Then again, the tweet got the company trending, so it may well have been a publicity ploy from the get-go, with backlash expected. Misogynistic clickbait though - it’s a fine line to tread… Frazer wouldn’t recommend it. 50.qxp_Layout 1 01/04/2021 14:22 Page 1Businesses across the UK are looking at their day to day operations, asking how they implement best practice as they begin to recover from this pandemic.
