The Emira is an all-new mid-engine premium sports car that perfectly embodies the ongoing transformation of the Lotus business and brand. It features all the hallmarks that the automotive world has come to expect from a Lotus – striking design, thrilling dynamic performance delivering best-in-class ride and handling, outstanding aerodynamics and an unrivalled experience ‘For The Drivers’. Building on the legacy of the Elise, Exige and Evora, the Emira represents a quantum leap forward for Lotus. Those instantly recognisable brand signatures and core values have been combined with a paradigm shift in levels of practicality, comfort, functionality and technology. The Emira has been developed on a new lightweight bonded aluminium chassis – technology pioneered by Lotus and which remains an intrinsic part of the company’s sports car DNA. Powering the V6 First Edition is the much-loved and Lotus-honed 3.5-litre supercharged V6 engine, mid-mounted behind the two seats. Developing 400hp, it’s mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with a visible gearchange mechanism and hydraulic power-assisted steering. The car rides on 20-inch ultra- lightweight V-spoke forged alloy wheels. They’re diamond cut to create a premium two-tone finish, though silver or gloss black versions are available as a no-cost option. Two-piece brake discs with branded calipers are part of the First Edition spec, plus a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The First Edition comes in one of six vibrant paint colours: Seneca Blue – which was seen at the car’s launch in July – plus Magma Red, Hethel Yellow, Dark Verdant, Shadow Grey and Nimbus Grey. More colours will be available during 2022. While Frazer has a good relationship with his boss, that certainly does not appear to be the case for one woman who is now afraid of losing her job after upsetting her superior. What could she possibly have done? Performed poorly? Broken some sort of workplace rule? Well, the reality is much more awkward. She has apparently caused the untimely death of her boss’s dog. Sharing the story anonymously, the woman - let’s call her Jane - revealed that her boss had tried to contact her due to an emergency at work, but as Jane could not be reached, the boss dealt with it herself, leaving two pooches alone at home. Rather sadly, in the boss’s absence, her smaller pooch passed and Jane, being unavailable when needed, has been blamed ever since, despite being in designated off time when the work emergency occurred. Since the incident, Jane says her manager has on multiple occasions said: “because you didn’t answer your phone my dog is dead,” and “I still blame you for killing my dog.” Eek - a slightly uncomfortable work environment. In this case it seems to Frazer that the manager is being unreasonable - what do you think? Sweet melodies Should we play music in the office? The question has been around for some time, and while some employees rely on music to get them through the 9-5, finding it motivational, others prefer to work in utter silence, seeing music as an unwelcome distraction. Though different bosses will have differing opinions on the matter, fresh research may well help if you are deciding whether to allow melodies out loud in the workplace - or at the very least it will put some more fire into the debate! While the new study has revealed that over half (54%) of workers do favour listening to music when working, a third of workers (32%) claim that the choice of music in the office has actually caused arguments between staff with one in ten people (11%) disliking the music that is played in their office! With conflict over music taste seemingly inevitable, Frazer thinks he may have a solution - a little thing called earphones! It appears painfully logical. 46 Business Link www.blmforum.net © Shutterstock/ LuXpics New businesses are raising funding and launching constantly, but as your guide in the world of the weird and wonderful, Frazer has to say, some of these firms have more peculiar aims and ideas than others - here is his favourite from the last month. While delighting in a lunch with a colleague, Frazer heard about an intriguing new company called Colossal - and yes, they have big plans. Having recently raised almost £11m, the bioscience company has been set up to revive the extinct woolly mammoth - for what real purpose, Frazer is not sure, but one thing is for certain, the Jurassic Park score is already running through his head, alongside the obvious ethical questions. As Jeff Goldblum wonderfully said: “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Scientists at Colossal will be making elephant-mammoth hybrids, which will eventually be let into the wild, by creating embryos carrying mammoth DNA. The first calves are expected in six years. Will the new woolly mammoths come to fruition? Frazer is sceptical. But he will definitely be watching closely with a bucket of popcorn.
