Sheffield schools to expand with £10m government funding

Sheffield City Council has approved plans to expand several schools and nurseries, creating around 300 additional pupil places across the city. Funding comes from a Department for Education (DfE) grant of nearly £10 million.

Sheffield Springs Academy will receive £2.41 million to add 30 places per year group across its five-year intake. Work includes extending the main entrance and dining hall, reconfiguring the second floor, and converting a classroom into a science lab. Sheffield Park Academy has been allocated £7.1 million to provide the same increase in capacity, with additional work on classrooms, the library, dining hall, and toilets.

Forge Valley School will receive £87,600 for a temporary expansion to assess long-term capacity options. Nether Green Infant School and Royd Nursery and Infant School will also receive funding to support growth.

Five Rivers Multi Academy Trust will expand its alternative provision for children outside mainstream schooling with a £277,200 DfE grant. Expansions are being driven by population growth forecasts in Sheffield and aim to address increasing demand for pupil places.
