Olympia Leisure, a long-established arcade, bar and restaurant on Scarborough’s South Bay, has received approval from North Yorkshire Council for a major exterior refurbishment.
The plans by operator Rubicon Pastimes include modern cladding, new lighting, and an extended decking area. The project also covers the reinstatement of an external stairwell and the expansion of the existing glass balustrade to open the entire balcony for food and drink service.
Previously, only part of the balcony was used for outdoor seating. The updated layout will create a larger, more flexible hospitality space overlooking the seafront.
Proposed lighting changes include LED pinstripes between the cladding panels. Council officers assessed the impact on the building’s appearance and confirmed that the new design maintains its character while offering a more contemporary finish.
The approved scheme is expected to enhance the visual appeal of the South Bay frontage and support ongoing investment in Scarborough’s coastal leisure economy.
