Brighouse market redevelopment signals next phase in town centre investment

Work has finished on Brighouse’s new market, marking another milestone in the £19.1 million Brighouse Town Deal. The completed site will soon welcome local traders to their new permanent base following the handover from Calderdale Council’s project team.

The redevelopment forms part of a wider regeneration strategy designed to strengthen the town’s economy through infrastructure upgrades and business growth. Located by the canal, the modern market has been designed as a mixed-use retail and community hub. The facility includes 21 fixed stalls with full utilities, space for 19 pop-up traders, seating areas, new access points, and improved cycle parking.

Delivered by Triton Construction on behalf of Calderdale Council and the Town Deal Board, the project complements earlier investments such as the i4.0 innovation hub. It also supports local enterprise by creating opportunities for small traders and start-ups to operate from a modern, energy-efficient site designed to attract visitors year-round.

Cllr Sarah Courtney, Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport, said:
“We want Calderdale’s towns and places to thrive, and this milestone for Brighouse is a key part of the aspiration to build a town where history lives, communities come together, memories are made and the economy can grow.”

The new market sits alongside the planned redevelopment of the surrounding public realm, including better pedestrian and cycling routes linking the town centre to Thornton Square and nearby green spaces. Work on the final phase of the Town Deal is scheduled to begin early next year.
