Bonmarché renews Freshney Place lease amid £50m redevelopment

Freshney Place Shopping Centre in Grimsby has secured a new lease with women’s fashion retailer Bonmarché, strengthening the centre’s retail mix as its £50 million redevelopment advances.

Bonmarché, which operates more than 225 stores nationwide, will continue trading from its existing unit. The renewal reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a strong high street presence and supporting regional retail centres as part of its long-term strategy.

The shopping centre’s major regeneration project aims to transform the site into a modern retail and leisure destination. The redevelopment includes a cinema, a redesigned market hall, and a dedicated food court, each intended to attract broader footfall and deliver a refreshed town centre experience.

Elliott Andrews, centre manager commented: “We’re thrilled Bonmarché has recommitted to Freshney Place. Their continued presence highlights the strength of our offer and the belief our partners have in the future of the centre. Our transformation into a new retail and leisure hub is well underway, and it’s fantastic to see businesses investing in that journey alongside us.”

Freshney Place currently maintains an occupancy rate of around 95%, reflecting sustained demand from both national and independent brands. The renewed lease signals continued business confidence in the centre’s redevelopment vision and its evolving role in Grimsby’s commercial landscape.
