A long-serving community pharmacy in the Crossgates area of east Leeds has been sold following more than 20 years under the same ownership. The business, situated beside a busy GP surgery and dispensing around 9,600 items each month, was brought to market as its former owner prepared to step back from day-to-day operations.
Ben Wilson, the former owner of Whitkirk Pharmacy, comments, “It was a big decision to finally go to market, but I felt that the time was right, and I am looking forward to an extended holiday while I consider what comes next. I wish the buyers the greatest of success in taking the business forward.”
The pharmacy has been acquired by operators who already oversee three sites across Yorkshire. Their focus includes expanding the service mix, with plans to introduce additional private options and enhanced NHS provisions to support growing demand for primary care access in the region.
The sale was handled through Christie & Co. Jon Booth, Director – Pharmacy at Christie & Co, comments, “This is the second successful completion in my hometown of Leeds in as many weeks, and caps off a brilliant year for completions in Leeds, which also includes Roundhay Pharmacy, Adel Pharmacy, and Seacroft Pharmacy. Good-quality opportunities, like those offered by Ben’s retirement, are always popular.”
He continued, “However, interest is heightened when they are located in areas like Whitkirk, with its proximity to Leeds city centre, excellent transport links, and scope for improvement. There were dozens of interested parties when we launched this site and multiple bids. Levels of interest for this type of site have further improved in recent months, and supply continues to outstrip demand significantly.”
The new owners are assessing investment opportunities to strengthen community engagement and position the pharmacy for future growth.
