Catterick town centre redevelopment reaches key stage

Construction on the £21 million redevelopment of Catterick town centre has reached a significant phase, marked by the installation of the first steel framework for the new Community and Enterprise building on Shute Road. The project began in July and forms part of a wider plan to modernise the town centre used by local residents and a large military population stationed at Catterick Garrison.

Executive member for open to business, Cllr Mark Crane said: “When we visited the site in July it was perhaps difficult to imagine the end result of this scheme as it was purely designs on a computer or site plan. But since then, work has progressed at pace, to the point now where it is really beginning to take shape and you can get a real feel for what it will become”

He continued, “The people of Catterick are very proud of where they live and of the history, both military and civilian, that is woven through it and I think they will be delighted with the opportunities this scheme will bring to the area as it transforms the town centre.”

The scheme is supported by £19 million from the Levelling Up Fund, with additional match-funding provided by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and local authorities. Work is being delivered by Willmott Dixon and is scheduled for completion in winter 2026.

Key components include a new town square, a multi-use Community and Enterprise hub with space for small business offices, community groups, and food retail, alongside extensive public realm improvements. Plans also include upgrades to Coronation Park featuring enhanced play areas, a skate zone, and sensory spaces. Footpaths and cycleways are being improved to create more accessible links across the town centre.

Construction on a nearby event space is due to begin this week, with completion expected before Christmas.
