A long-established forecourt on the A174 in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park has been placed on the market for the first time since 1966 as its owners move into retirement.
Hinderwell Filling Station comprises a petrol forecourt, a compact retail unit supplying automotive parts and accessories, confectionery and soft drinks, and an operational workshop. The business has run under the same ownership for nearly sixty years and attracts steady demand from motorists and residents.
The sale offers scope for a new operator to modernise the retail element, broaden the convenience range, and increase workshop capacity. The longevity of the site provides a strong platform for commercial growth or repositioning, supported by consistent year-round traffic along the A174 and a predictable seasonal uplift.
Andrew Birnie, Director at Christie & Co, is managing the sale process and commented, “The market for going concern petrol forecourts is extremely competitive. This garage is located on a busy road and benefits from regular trade from local residents and commuters throughout the year, as well as seasonal peaks during the holiday months, from visitors coming to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
“We expect this site will appeal to existing forecourt operators looking to expand their site numbers, but it is also within the first-time buyer price range for new operators, as well as being an interesting prospect for alternative use development. Our clients are ready to retire after serving the community for many years and we look forward to finding the right buyer to take Hinderwell Filling Station forward.”
Christie & Co has been instructed to oversee the disposal and is marketing the site to both established operators and prospective entrants seeking a foothold in the forecourt sector.
