Northern nursery group changes hands after two decades

A long-standing childcare group in the North of England has been acquired, marking a noteworthy shift in the region’s early years landscape.

Shine Childcare, founded in 2004, has expanded over 21 years to operate four freehold nurseries in Huddersfield, Oldham, Halifax, and Leeds. The group delivers full-day childcare for children from birth to 11 years and provides wraparound support for school-age families. It currently offers 570 registered places and has scope to increase capacity by a further 60 at its Halifax site.

The portfolio drew interest due to its scale, consistent performance, and strategic locations that align with strong regional demand. A confidential sales process was overseen by Christie & Co.

Nick Brown, Head of Brokerage – Childcare & Education at Christie & Co, comments, “We are thrilled to have successfully facilitated this significant transaction. The portfolio represents an outstanding opportunity for Kids Planet to expand its footprint and continue delivering excellence in early years education. All parties have done a fabulous job in getting this renowned group to completion.”

Kids Planet Day Nurseries is the acquiring operator. The deal adds four more settings to its national network of more than 250 nurseries and further consolidates its presence in northern markets.
