Dewsbury housing scheme moves forward after judicial review

A proposal to develop 181 homes at Heybeck Lane in Dewsbury is set to return to Kirklees Council’s Strategic Planning Committee after officers recommended approval. The site forms part of a wider programme for around 1,500 homes across the Chidswell and Heybeck areas, with outline consent for the Heybeck section previously secured.

The earlier approval was overturned in a judicial review after the court found that Section 106 agreements had not been published before the decision. A fresh consultation was launched in October following the ruling.

The latest application has generated 115 responses from residents, local groups and environmental organisations, including the Chidswell Action Group, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Woodland Trust. Concerns raised cover potential effects on Ancient Woodland, local biodiversity and the capacity of nearby infrastructure.

The scheme has been added to the agenda for the council’s Strategic Planning Committee meeting on 4 December after requests from councillors and due to the volume of objections submitted.
