Lamington Group has secured funding for room2 York, a net zero carbon ‘hometel’ set to open in Spring 2027.
Freeths provided legal counsel on a £41.75m Green Development and Investment Loan, secured through Coutts Commercial, which will support the construction of room2 York and contribute to Lamington’s wider pipeline of net zero developments across the UK.
As a certified B Corporation, the family-owned real estate investment and development company is committed to delivering whole-life net zero buildings and aims to open 5,000 keys by 2030, setting new standards in sustainable hospitality and real estate development.
Lamington’s new 116-room property in the heart of York is its first in the North of England. The site will feature meeting spaces, a gym, guest laundry, Winnie’s café and bar, alongside sustainable design elements like reclaimed materials, solar panels, and CO₂-controlled ventilation.
Freeths banking & finance parter, Andrew Curtis said: “As a fellow B Corp, it gave us great pride to support Lamington Group in delivering a project that reflects our shared values of sustainability, innovation and social responsibility.
“room2 York is a brilliant example of how the hospitality sector can lead the way in creating spaces that are not only commercially successful, but also environmentally conscious and community-focused.”
Stuart Godwin, managing director, Lamington Group, added: “As a B Corp, Lamington Group is very selective about its supply chain and partners, so it’s a great pleasure to be partnering with Coutts.
“This loan package will enable us to deliver the design-led, customer centric room2 ‘hometel’ in York, and allow for further sites to be brought into our net zero pipeline.”
