Leisure, Community, Health and Wellbeing Centre moves a step closer for Bradford

Bradford’s new Squire Lane Leisure, Community, Health, and Wellbeing Centre is moving a step closer.

The Government recognised the importance of this project last year and provided £20million to deliver this valuable long term asset. It will be a combination of a leisure centre, health services and community facilities.

Bradford Council’s Executive will be asked to approve the next stage of delivery which will include commissioning detailed design work and consultation. It will be discussed at a meeting of the Executive on Tuesday, 21 February.

The facility will have three core elements: leisure, community and health related facilities, where activities to develop enterprise, skills and community engagement will be delivered.

The centre would provide a number of community benefits, including:

  • 2 swimming pools consisting of a 6 lane 25metres pool and 1 depth adjustable learner pool
  • 1 fitness gym (100 pieces of equipment)
  • 1 spin class studio
  • 2 gym areas
  • changing facilities
  • extra space for health partners
  • new community facilities available to book
  • outdoor play facilities

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “It’s really exciting to move this project to the next stage. It will be good to see the designs for the centre coming through and for consultation to begin with the local community.

“The new Leisure, Community, Health, and Wellbeing Centre will be a great asset for local people. It will provide vital leisure facilities and transformative services in terms of health and wellbeing and also provide important community spaces for local residents.”
