A major new development at Calderdale Royal Hospital has received full planning approval from Calderdale Council. The project involves constructing a purpose-built clinical facility featuring dedicated emergency departments for adults and children, as well as eight new wards.
The building will be integrated with the existing hospital complex, adhering to its architectural scale and layout. Design approval covers external appearance, landscaping, and internal configuration to support patient flow and operational efficiency.
The scheme forms part of the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust’s wider investment plan to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across the region. Construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2026, with completion expected in 2029.
The project aims to expand capacity, improve emergency response, and modernise clinical services to meet future demand in Halifax and surrounding areas. It represents a significant capital investment in the local health system and is expected to generate supply chain opportunities for contractors and service providers throughout the build.
