Sheffield café’s growth reflects strength of city-backed developments

A Sheffield café brand, Hygge Café, continues to scale its footprint after opening in the city’s Heart of the City II scheme in 2025. The business, which launched as part of the council-led regeneration project, has since expanded across Sheffield with additional sites in Fitzalan Square and Eyre Street. It has also entered the Leeds market with its first unit.

Its founder, Alex Moore, said, “It’s been a good start to life, it’s very much in the centre of town with premium footfall levels, we’ve got some really high-end offices around here so the cliental coming in are office staff as well as students and residents. It’s been great and it’s really, really nice to be able to proudly show off that we’ve gone from a tiny independent to a fairly established business. It’s been really enjoyable.”

The café’s trajectory reflects the wider commercial momentum within Heart of the City, where hospitality, retail and heritage-led venues continue to open. The district’s mix of refurbished buildings and new developments has supported a steady pipeline of operators, with further openings planned as the project progresses.
