A Sheffield-based law firm has played a key role in the acquisition of one of Yorkshire’s most recognisable buildings, Skeldale House in Askrigg. The Grade II listed property, famous as the exterior of the veterinary surgery in the BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, has been purchased by entrepreneur Greg Parkin.
Mason Thomas Law provided legal counsel on the property transaction, including the established holiday accommodation business operating on the site. The acquisition was supported by Dawson Radford Solicitors, based in Chesterfield.
Initially built in the 19th century, Skeldale House has served various purposes over the years, including a family home, care facility, and bed and breakfast. It became luxury serviced accommodation in 2021, offering six suites and a self-contained apartment.
The property, long associated with the region’s cultural heritage, has been reimagined to include an event space named The Surgery. The space pays tribute to the television series that made the building famous, incorporating vintage veterinary items and imagery from the show’s production.
The deal reflects continuing investor interest in Yorkshire’s heritage properties and the growth of high-end hospitality ventures in rural locations.
