Small Business Grant scheme opens door for expansion at architecture business

Richmond-based Cellar Door Architecture has received almost £1,000 from the Small Business Grant scheme to help buy more IT equipment for a new member of staff.

Director Micheal Chou relocated to the town in 2021 bringing his expertise from London to North Yorkshire at the start of the pandemic. Since then the business has seen 15 new projects taken on, including an £11million housing development in Darlington. Michael has worked for world-class architectural firms including Norman Foster and Simpson Haugh.

Aimee Brown, Director of Operations at Cellar Door, said: “We work with both commercial and homeowner clients through all stages of design and construction to create well-conceived and thoughtfully detailed architecture.

“With grant funding from Richmondshire District Council we have been able to purchase essential new computer equipment for a new member of staff, enabling us to expand our team and grow our reach.”

The Small Business Grant scheme offers up to £1,000 to small businesses under 36 months old to help start and grow. The fund can be used towards the purchase of equipment, marketing costs and adaptation to premises.
