Turner & Townsend expands role in UK’s low-carbon infrastructure with Teesside commission

Turner & Townsend has been appointed to provide project controls, cost, and commercial management for Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP). The four-year commission will cover performance, cost management, and assurance during construction.

NZT Power is set to become the world’s first gas-fired power station equipped with carbon capture and storage technology. It forms part of the East Coast Cluster, which connects industrial decarbonisation projects across Teesside and the Humber. NEP is developing the transport and storage network that will move captured carbon dioxide from regional sites to secure offshore storage beneath the North Sea.

The project is expected to generate up to 742MW of low-carbon electricity, enough to power more than one million homes—while capturing up to two million tonnes of CO each year. It represents a major step in the UK’s efforts to decarbonise heavy industry and create a replicable model for future low-carbon power projects.

Alan Sinclair, Managing Director, Energy and Natural Resources, UK at Turner & Townsend, said the appointment reflects the company’s commitment to delivering the highest standards of performance and assurance on one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects. He added that it strengthens the firm’s portfolio in complex infrastructure delivery and supports the national transition to net zero.
